What I Wish I'd Known About Consistent Income (& What It Actually Took To Get Here)

I know what it's like to not have consistent income. To be stuck in that cycle of always needing to make more sales, to bring more clients in the door, and starting from zero every single month. 

I also know what it's like on the other side of creating consistent income, so today I want to share the real story of how I got here and speak to the heart of why I'm so deeply passionate about spiritual women building sustainable businesses, and specifically creating consistent income.

The Early Days: Starting From Scratch Every Month

When I first started my business 10 years ago, I started out making candles in my one bedroom apartment and selling them for $25 a pop.

I was also doing reiki healings at the same time, before adding in workshops, one-to-one coaching, an online course, a group program, retreats, you name it, I probably did it.

Point being, I was doing a million and one things, most of them pretty low cost, and as a result, my income was so up and down.

I didn't have a signature program. I didn't have a higher ticket or longer-term way for people to work with me. For the most part, my coaching was one-off sessions. 

The money coming in relied entirely on whatever sales I made that week, whatever clients I booked that week. There was no consistency or future planning, and I was in this constant cycle of reactive selling and starting every month from scratch.

It wasn’t great for my nervous system (or my bank account).

How Building a Signature Offer Created Recurring Revenue

Then, about four years into my business, I had my first baby and I realised things needed to change. I no longer had the time to pour into the business I once had, so I set about building something a lot more sustainable.

I invested in my first business coach and joined her mastermind. For the first time, I was thinking more long term, more strategically, more sustainably.

I simplified everything, and went all in on becoming known as a spiritual business coach. In September 2020, I launched the first round of the Spiritual Business Mistressmind, which is now my signature program and the only way for clients to work with me. 

Six years later, it's still going strong.

That first year after becoming a mama was the first time I started seeing recurring revenue come into my business, and it completely changed my life.

I went from a business that relied on me constantly showing up to make low-ticket sales, to knowing what income I had coming in six to nine months in advance. I could finally be strategic with how I built and stacked my income, and I had way more spaciousness in both my life and business.

What Consistent Income Actually Gave Me

Prior to this, I was working with clients 1:1 in one-off single sessions, and there's only so much you can do in a 60 or 90 minute session. 

What happened when I started working with clients over six months is that I started seeing deeper transformation. Real, lasting change in their life and business.

Creating consistent income wasn't just about what it meant for me. It meant I could support clients in a deeper, more profound way – and do it all in a way that worked for me in my current season of life as a new mum.

Fast forward seven years and I'm now a mama of three. I've had two more maternity leaves. I know what income I'm bringing in between now and the middle of next year – even if I made no more sales, I’d still have income coming in.

And because I can see when client contracts are ending. I can see what months might be lighter versus months where I'm more flush – I can build my strategy around that. I'm not stuck in reactive mode. I can be more planned, more strategic, more intentional about what I’m doing in my business.

Real Results From Building a Consistent Cash Business

When you have a baseline of monthly recurring revenue you know is coming in, you create more security for yourself. More stability in your nervous system. More time for the things that matter, for your kids, for the creative projects that have been sitting on the back burner.

Without consistent income, you're building on shaky ground. You’re building something that requires your constant attention and a high level of energy output that will inevitably lead to burnout if you keep it up over the long term.

Instead, focus on building a business model that gives you a return on your investment over the long term, one you can continue to build, grow and scale.
