Not Feeling Motivated? How to Show Up & Stay Consistent in Business (Even When You Don’t Want To)

There are going to be days in business when showing up just feels… hard.

Days when you’re staring at your to-do list thinking, “Ugh. I do not want to do this today.” The motivation’s gone, your energy is flat, and everything just feels like a slog.

If that’s where you’re at right now – I see you. I’ve been there. My clients have been there. And I want to share a mindset reframe that’s been coming up a lot lately in my world – one that’s been a game-changer for me and the women I coach.

Because the truth is, if you only show up when it feels good, you're going to struggle to grow a sustainable, soul-aligned business.

Let’s talk about what it really takes to show up and stay consistent – even when you don’t feel like it.

Why Motivation Alone Won’t Build a Sustainable Business

So many spiritual business owners wait to “feel good” before they take action. They only want to move when their motivation is high, when the energy is flowing, when it feels aligned.

Which works great… until it doesn’t.

What happens when life gets messy? When your energy dips? When inspiration is nowhere to be found?

If you’re only willing to show up when it feels good, it’s going to be hard to achieve your business goals.

We are cyclical beings. Our energy ebbs and flows. You won’t always feel excited and inspired – and that’s okay. You’re a human living a life.

I believe in building life-first businesses that support us through all seasons. But your business still requires you to show up. And how you show up when it feels hard really matters.

Are you the woman who only shows up when it’s easy?

Or are you the woman who’s devoted to her vision – and shows up even when it’s inconvenient and uncomfortable?

Why Discipline Matters More Than Motivation

The difference comes down to discipline.

You can’t rely on motivation to get you through the hard moments, but you can rely on discipline.

It might not feel as good, but it doesn’t need to. When we take the pressure off things needing to feel good in order for us to move forward, it becomes easier to show up and do the damn thing.

Treat Your Business Like a Spiritual Practice

Think about your spiritual practice.

If you’ve ever committed to meditation, journaling or a morning ritual, you know some days it’s easy to show up… and other days, it’s not.

But you don’t question the need for discipline in your spiritual practice. It’s part of the process.

Your business is no different.

Yet we often treat business like it should always feel good – and if it doesn’t, it must not be in alignment.

But you have a vision. You’ve been called to this work. You want to make a difference. You want to build an abundant, sustainable business.

That requires devotion. Presence. The willingness to show up, even when it’s hard.

It’s not about pushing or forcing. It’s about honouring the work you’re here to do – especially when it would be easier not to.

You Need Flow and Structure to Grow

So many spiritual entrepreneurs have been taught to prioritise flow over structure – but you need both.

You need the intuitive hits and the strategy to follow through.

You don’t need to wait until you feel like it. You just need to do it. And sometimes that requires discipline.

3 Ways to Stay Consistent When You’re Not Feeling It

If business feels hard right now and you’re struggling to show up, here’s how to reconnect and move forward:

1. Anchor into your why and recommit to your vision

Reconnect to your mission. The women you’re here to serve. The impact you’re here to create.

When we let our own fears or self-talk hold us back, we’re choosing ego over our mission. So anchor back into your why. Recommit.

2. Stop overthinking it

Overthinking kills momentum. It convinces you that you need more time, more clarity, a new idea or better Canva template – instead of just starting.

Discipline says, “I trust myself to take action, even when I don’t feel completely ready.”

You can refine as you go – but first, you need to move.

3. Do the thing you’ve been avoiding – first

We all have that task. The one that lingers on the to-do list. Maybe it feels stretchy or maybe you just don’t feel like doing it.

But often, that’s exactly the thing that will move you forward.

So do it first. Get it out of the way. The dopamine hit from ticking it off? Incredible.

This is about proving to yourself that you can do hard things. That you’re in the driver’s seat – not your resistance.

Remember: Discipline is Devotion

Before I sign off, I want you to remember that showing up for your business isn’t always going to feel good. You won’t always feel motivated. And that’s okay.

It might not feel amazing to show up when you’re leaning on discipline instead of motivation – but your business and your mission require it of you.

Discipline is devotion. Devotion to your business, your vision, your mission.

And you can do hard things. I know you can.
