How I Decide What To Focus On Next In My Spiritual Business (Without Overthinking Everything)

You know what kills momentum and motivation faster than anything? Overthinking absolutely everything in your business.
I see this holding so many spiritual business owners back – and it's one of the questions I get asked most often: how do you actually decide what to focus on next when there are so many options and so much conflicting information floating around?
When you’re sitting down to make a plan about what to do next, it can be easy to start overthinking every little thing. But it's not helpful for anyone.
So let's talk about what to do instead.
Why Overthinking Kills Your Business Momentum
The reason so many spiritual business owners get stuck here is because their inner “good girl” wants to get everything right. You're worried you're going to make the wrong decision, do the wrong thing, pick the option that isn't going to get you where you want to go fast enough.
So you overthink the plan, overthink the strategy, and end up stuck in a freeze state. Rather than doing something, you don't do anything at all. And that's the real problem – because making a decision is better than making no decision at all. Doing something is better than doing nothing.
The Framework: Intuition AND Strategy Working Together
The way I approach this – and the way I work through it with my clients – is to always come back to both intuition and strategy. Not as two separate things, but working together.
The first step is to get really clear on your goal. Once you know what you're working towards, you can work back from there: what makes the most strategic sense as the next step?
Strategy gives you your options – option A, B, C or D. The way I often work with clients is I'll say, “okay, we could do this, we could do that or we could try it this way instead” and strategically, these are the things I'd recommend based on where you want to go.
Once you have those options, you layer in the intuition. Which option feels good? Which one are you most guided towards? If you're not sure, look at how much time you have, what's going to be easiest to implement, what feels the most fun.
The sweet spot is knowing your goal, working back strategically, and then letting intuition guide the final decision. These aren't competing forces – they're meant to work together. This is something I do every week with my clients, and also personally with my own business decisions.
What This Looked Like For Me: Pushing My Launch To August
I've shared on the podcast that in Q2 my main focus in business is visibility – and I have been chipping away at that, but probably not as fast as I would like. We’ve had some big shifts in my household over the last few months and I’ve had to get real around what my capacity is in this current season as a full-time mama, and what is actually possible for me to get done within the hours that I've got.
Originally I was planning on relaunching the Mistressmind in mid-June, but when I sat down to properly map out my launch plan, I realised I needed to shift that timeline. So I'm now launching in early August instead.
The strategic case: my goal is a 50k launch, and the fact is, I simply haven't done enough audience growth since my last launch in March. Pushing the date out gives me more time to do the pre-launch work that will help me actually hit my goal.
The intuitive case: I was also just not feeling it. The idea of launching again in mid-June made me feel uneasy – and not in a "oh I'm a bit nervous about it" kind of way. I felt it in my gut and in my chest that it was not the right move.
Of course, there is a part of me, the ego part, that's a bit frustrated I've not been able to stick to that original timeline. But I've also been in business long enough that I know this is the best decision for me, for the business, and for my family.
Making the Best Decision You Can – Then Moving
So here’s what I want you to do.
Come back to your goal, work back strategically, layer in your intuition to make a decision and then move forward.
Is it going to be the exact right move? We can never be 100% sure. So much of business is trial and error – making the best decision you can in the moment, seeing what happens, and refining from there.
I wish as a business coach I could say: here's exactly what you need to do and you'll get to where you want to go, step by step, easy breezy, lemon squeezy. But it's not the reality, and anyone selling you that their way is the only way is lying to you.
There are always multiple options. And yes, it makes the decision harder. But ultimately it forces you to step up and lead yourself and your business in the way that you need to.
Overthinking it. Over-strategising it. That's not it. Intuition AND strategy working together is where it's at.
