How to Choose the Right Coach or Mastermind for You

Today I’m sharing how to choose the right coach or mastermind for you.

This is a question I’m often asked and I know is something that can feel overwhelming…

There are A LOT of business coaches and masterminds out there right?!

So how do you choose the right one for you?
What do you look for?

How do you make that decision in a way that is going to really support YOU as a human, as a spiritual woman, as an entrepreneur?

These are the questions that I’m going to answer for you today.

I’m going to share with you 6 different questions to consider when choosing a coach or mastermind.

1. Are your values aligned?

I’m kicking off with this one because if your values are not aligned – then there’s no point pursuing a coaching relationship further.

You need someone who is going to understand you, understand your business, understand your mission, support you to create the business AND the life AND the impact that you want to have in the world.

Shared values are SO important.

Firstly you need to know and understand your own values and what they are. Be really clear on what it is that you value as a human being and spiritual business owner.

And only then will you be able to decide whether or not a coach has shared values with you. Go out and do some research.

If you vibe with someone – look at their website, their social media, what they say about themselves and what they stand for.

Do the research and then make the decision on the basis that their values align with yours.

2. Do they have a good understanding of business?

And by that I mean – specifically the things that you want support with to grow your business.

A secondary question here is – have they built a good, solid business themselves?

I know it might sound obvious to get a business coach that understands business…

But there are a lot of business coaches out there and not all are made equal.

So what are you looking for specifically? The more specific you can be the better.

Are you looking for a business coach that:

  • Can support you with your marketing strategy?

  • Has specific experience in a certain industry?

  • Specialises in product-based businesses?

  • Or service-based online business?

  • And can they articulate what their specialty is?

To give you an example – most of my clients are intuitive, creative spiritual women who love sharing their gifts and magic and supporting other humans in some way. They often LOVE doing the work – that is, working with clients or teaching their students. They love being and working in their business.

What they want support with is the practical, strategy, business side of things – because that’s not what comes naturally to them. But...they also want to work with someone who understands what it means to be spiritual and intuitive. That’s what I bring to the table as a spiritual business coach – and I can articulate it.

So have a think about what you want specifically from your business coach.

What are your biggest challenges in business? What do you need support with?

And THEN find someone that fits your needs.

3. Can you get a taste of what it’s like working with them?

Either through engaging with their content – whether that be on social media, a blog or on a podcast.

Or by booking in to have a clarity or discovery call with them.

Can you get a taste of what it’s going to be like to work with them?

Do they provide you the opportunity to get to KNOW them, to work out whether you LIKE them and build TRUST in them. This is what they call, the “know, like and trust” factor.

So when you’re out there looking for a business coach, go and engage with their content – watch their videos, look at their instagram posts – and if you think you like what you see, book in a call and have a conversation with them.

Ask them all the questions you need to work out if they are a good fit for you.

4. Do they come recommended?

Social proof, social proof, social proof.

Go on their website and read their testimonials.

Better yet, do you know someone who has worked with them before and can you ask them if they recommend them?

If a business coach doesn’t have any testimonials on their website – I’d first and foremost question that, because social proof is so powerful and any business coach who knows their stuff should have them clear and visible.

But if they don’t and you’re still vibing with them, reach out and ask if they have any testimonials they can share with you. All you can do is ask the question.

Social proof and testimonials are worth their weight in gold because they give you an insight into what it’s like to work with them and the results you can expect.

5. Can you go deep in your relationship with them?

This is a question that I LOVE to ask because it’s not something I think people are talking about much in the coaching space and therefore not considering when making a decision on who to work with.

My favourite way to work with clients, and my favourite way to work with my own coach, is to go deeper rather than wider in that relationship.

Deeper = the opportunity to build a long-term coaching / mentoring relationship with your coach.

Wider = to move from coach to coach every 3 - 6 months.

I’ve been working with my business coach now for 18 months. I’ve just signed on for another 6 and at this point, I don’t see that changing.

The benefits to a deeper relationship are huge! Because we’ve been working together for so long, my coach knows my business SO well that anything I come to her with doesn’t need any context, because she knows the context already.

She is one of my core support team – and if I was to chop and change coaches every 6 months, I’d have to build that relationship all over again with someone new.

The same goes for my long term clients – I know their businesses so well, they come to me with a challenge or something new they want to do – we can dive straight in.

That doesn’t mean they don’t go and get training from other mentors or that everyone is going to work with a coach in that way.

But it is something that I would recommend you consider – the opportunity to go deep in your relationship with your coach.

6. How can you work with them?

Does this look like a 1:1 coaching package or a group mastermind experience?

And what are you looking for specifically?

1:1 coaching provides the opportunity to really go deep and get focused…

But a mastermind experience is also incredibly powerful!

I say that not only as someone who runs a mastermind program BUT also as someone who works with my own coach in a mastermind-style setting and as someone who STARTED coaching because I experienced the power of working with women in a group setting.

To give you some background, I only trained and started working as a coach AFTER I saw the transformations that happened as a result of bringing women together and holding space for them in sacred circle.

Magic happens when women come together in sacred circle.

The same is true in a Mastermind.

Not only do you get the mentoring, guidance and support from your coach – you also get the community aspect of being in a mastermind group. The connections, the networking, the advice, the support of being on the same journey with a group of like-minded, like-hearted humans.

This is WHY I work with my own coach in this way. It is WHY my signature program, the Spiritual Business Mistressmind, is a combination of both group coaching and 1:1 coaching. Because a mastermind-style program is SO powerful. You get your coach AND then some!

So it’s something that I would encourage you to consider when you’re going out and looking at business coaches and their programs.

Speaking of mastermind-style programs...

The next round of the Spiritual Business Mistressmind is currently open for enrolment!

This is my signature coaching program. It is a 6 month experience for women who are ready to take their spiritual business to 6 figures and beyond. It is a combination of both 1:1 and group coaching and is THE best way to work with me.

So if you have been vibing with what I’ve been sharing today, if our values are aligned and if you want to get both the advantages of working with a coach 1:1 AND in a group setting – I’d love to support you to build and grow your business.

My goal for you, my wish for you...is to get the support YOU need to build your business in the most aligned, soulful way possible.

Have a read through the sales page, read the testimonials and if you’d like to have a chat – I have some times available for you to book a clarity call.

You can do that right here.
